Eloise learned to welcome new experiences and meet people from diverse backgrounds. A bit shy by nature, Eloise loved drawing, writing and music. Eloise lives in Virginia Beach with her husband Joe, daughter Catherine, and pets. She has been teaching art for over 20 years in the Hampton Roads area in Encaustic painting, Oil & Cold Wax painting, acrylic painting and gelli [1] printing with collage. Eloise taught design classes at Tidewater Community College’s Visual Art Center for 10 years until a few years ago. She decided to devote more time to her art practice and teaching both in-person and online workshops. Though Eloise most identifies as a painter, she is proud to be a member of the Chesapeake Bay Print Collective which recently exhibited at the Charles Taylor Art Center. Her work is currently shown at the Lemon Tree Gallery in Cape Charles, the Jo Louise Pop-Shop in Newport News, and Norfolk Academy. Eloise’s work is in private and public collections including the TCC permanent collection. Home and connections were early themes of her writing as she majored in English at the University of Wilmington in North Carolina. A career as an Ad Designer for over ten years in Raleigh, North Carolina led Eloise to appreciate the graphic qualities of text and layout design. She eventually pursued design & art study at TCC, acquiring a studio arts degree in painting. Concepts of time and nature’s transitions became features of her work in painting. Impermanence, decay and renewal are compelling themes to Eloise. She enjoys photographing aging houses in rural towns, as well as urban landscapes that influence her art. Eloise has studied with many of the contemporary masters of oil & cold wax like Rebecca Crowell, Linda McCloskey, Lisa Boardwine and Pamela Caughey. https://www.instagram.com/eloisepaints Awards:
